UK Cosmetic Surgery Consultations

Our patient coordinators are one of the first people that you will have communicated with when you contacted Body Beautiful. Their extensive knowledge ensure that they answer all your questions and will take very good care of you throughout your journey. All of our team of coordinators are friendly and approachable and they understand that the decision to have surgery is not one to be taken lightly.

If you would like to come for a consultation, you will first meet with one of the co-ordinators who will help you complete the medical health questionnaire and take photographs of the areas to be treated to be reviewed by our Consultant Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons in order for them to devise a treatment plan for you and assess both your suitability for surgery and the procedures enquired about.

You will also be met by our Director of Operations who will be able to show you before and after photographs of other people who have undergone the procedures you are interested in as well as show you video testimonials and countless media/television features. In addition, everything will be explained to you fully, in plain English, about what to expect and the exact package prices and what is included and what isn’t. There will be plenty of time for you to ask as many questions in order to put your mind at ease.

Why not also meet our Staff Nurse (RGN) who specialises in Aesthetics and is not only fully qualified but also has a wealth of experience and knowledge in the administering of non-surgical treatments such as Botox, Fillers and the like. These can be done in the comfort of our treatment room.

JCI Accreditation for Prince Court Medical Centre

Christmas in Malaysia

Tis the season to be jolly and have cosmetic surgery! Yes, it’s the festive season once again and many medical tourists visit Malaysia at this time of the year.

Why? Kuala Lumpur certainly offers the European or colonial atmosphere that make those seeking a traditional Christmas, feel right at home! Most people take an extended vacation over the Christmas and New Year festivities. Accordingly, it is an ideal time to combine that time off work and travel abroad for cosmetic surgery as well enjoying all the fun associated with Christmas.

December is sure to be our busiest month of the year with only a handful of dates left. Please, therefore, book early to avoid disappointment and give yourself the best Christmas present of all. A new you.

You will, however, notice a significant difference in a tropical Christmas to the one back at home. Christmas Day is a public holiday and is celebrated by Christians throughout Malaysia. Being the multicultural nation that Malaysia is, everyone loves a celebration and the festivities are not restricted to one group within the country as people from all backgrounds join in and celebrate.

The commercialism of Christmas is so apparent in most Malaysian department stores, restaurants, bars and hotels and the outward signs of Christmas are similar to back home. Shopping malls and hotels are increasingly sophisticated in their decorations all trying to outdo each other. From a religious perspective, there are Christian churches throughout Malaysia offering a variety of Christmas services just in case you want to hear the odd Christmas carol.

One obvious sign that a Malaysian Christmas is very different to the traditional European Christmas is that the tropical weather is certainly hotter than European winters. Much, much hotter and more humid, in fact with average highs for December of 32C. There will be no signs of snow though only artificial!

Cosmetic Surgery Programme in Production with Body Beautiful

I was recently asked to take part in a programme that will be aired early next year. I have just completed my interview. The programme found that of 2000 15-year-olds surveyed 48% were considering plastic surgery and 3% had already started saving up! As cosmetic surgery becomes more affordable with overseas options and less stigmatised, more young people are going under the knife.

I was asked why? Who are they doing it for and is it worth it?

I was also asked many questions about cosmetic surgery abroad and provided general advice and guidance.

Fighting Cancer

On behalf of all the staff at Body Beautiful, today, I was greatly honoured to personally hand over a cheque for £1,250.00 to Christie’s’.

Christie's’ is the name of a charity that raises much needed funds for the Christie Hospital - one of the largest cancer treatment centres in Europe. It raises funds to help provide the hospital with extra patient services and undertake important research.

Their vision, which I share, is a future without cancer and they want to provide ever more effective treatments for patients so their chances of surviving cancer are greatly increased by paying for the expertise and equipment that is crucial to making advances in cancer treatment. Every advance they make buys someone and their family more time.

I have lost both of my parents to cancer so this really is a charity and cause very close to my heart. Doctors also estimate that more than one in three of us will get some form of cancer at some point in our lives.

I am most grateful to all of my staff for their efforts in fundraising through our “Dress Down Fridays”.

5 Star Service As Standard

I recently read of another operator of cosmetic surgery holidays to Malaysia introducing their new “Platinum Service Package” which includes, amongst other things, the lending of a local SIM card. Body Beautiful have been doing this for years, as standard, for all clients to ensure constant contact and optimal customer care.

The package also includes help with dressings and ointments following your discharge from hospital. Unlike many operators, Body Beautiful’s packages do not simply restrict the number of consultations with the Surgeon after surgery and there are many consultations with the Surgeon for them to personally inspect the wounds/incisions to check all is healing well. Further, Body Beautiful are able to arrange for a nurse to attend you at the hotel if you are having multiple procedures and require help with your dressings or even help with your bath. AirAsia X Announces Direct Flights To Melbourne

AirAsia X, the Malaysian-based long-haul low-cost airline has announced its latest international route from Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne, the third Australian destination. Melbourne has joined AirAsia X’s growing network of Australian destinations which includes the Gold Coast and Perth. Global Credit Crunch

The Pound (Sterling - GBP) has tumbled to a record low against the US Dollar for over the last two years. Accordingly, Malaysia's Ringgit has now dropped to a 15 month low. This combination has, in turn, led to increased operating costs for Body Beautiful as worldwide currencies weaken in the face of the global credit crunch meaning that the costs paid by Body Beautiful to the hospitals, hotels and the like increase in real terms. Body Beautiful has, over recent months, maintained package prices despite the rise in operational costs through currency exchange losses but the continued downward slide of currencies has meant, unfortunately, package prices will be increasing to reflect the exchange differentials.

90 Times More Likely To Get MRSA In UK!

Often you will hear ill informed people saying don’t go abroad for cosmetic surgery or overseas for medical treatment. Award winning and acclaimed BBC Reporter, Nicky Taylor, recently said of her cosmetic surgery in Malaysia with Body Beautiful “l think in retrospect we all can be guilty of a ‘fear of the foreign’. I hadn’t realised this before I went but ended up asking questions like "What’s the level of hygiene, do they speak English?". Now I realise that it is insulting!”

However, when you see reports by the BBC which concluded “Hospitals 'infested with vermin”, you are drawn to the inevitable conclusion do go abroad for your cosmetic surgery or overseas for your medical treatment. The report when onto to say “The cleanliness of most NHS hospitals in England is threatened by frequent invasions of rats, fleas, bedbugs, flies and cockroaches”.

The following data has been extracted from an EARSS report covering the period 1999-2002. The data shows the proportion of Staphylococcus Aureus Bacteria (MRSA) in each country which is methicillin resistant. Country Reported - %age of MRSA in 2002

You will be reassured to know that, for example, at Subang Jaya Medical Centre in Malaysia, the reported %age of MRSA is just 0.5%. This is well below the International bench marking %age of 6% with CDC (Centre of Disease Control at Atlanta, US and WHO) and 90 times less than the UK %age.

Insurance for Cosmetic Surgery Overseas

When travelling abroad and overseas for medical treatment or cosmetic surgery, you need to ensure that you are adequately insured against the usual travel perils just like if you were to take a normal vacation.

HEALTH TRAVELLER has been designed by Marcus Hearn specifically for those persons travelling abroad and overseas in order to obtain either medical treatment, dental treatment or cosmetic surgery.

Although there is no cover for your medical or cosmetic reason for travel, the policy removes one of the standard exclusions in many travel insurance contracts of 'travelling for the purpose of obtaining medical treatment'.

Standard travel insurance policies will generally automatically exclude ALL cover if you are travelling to obtain medical treatment.

Body Beautiful Go That Extra Mile!!

When we learnt that Stacy Donnelly was a huge fan of The Backstreet Boys, as a special treat for her, knowing the boys were in town and staying at our partner hotel, The Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel & Spa, naturally, we pulled out all the stops to grab a few words and photos with AJ McLean and Nick Carter.

The Backstreet Boys, whose hits such as "Everybody" and "As Long As You Love Me" which catapulted them into international superstardom in the '90s selling in excess of 75 million records worldwide, performed a one off concert recently on the beach of The 5 Star Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel & Spa as part of their “Unbreakable Tour”.

Stacy said “I just wanted to say thank you for everything especially The Backstreet Boys!!!!! I am doing really well and had a great time in Kuala Lumpur. I would go back tomorrow. Everyone was sooooo jealous and everyone thinks my new chest is lovely too!!”

Body Beautiful in Australia

Whilst we have arranged cosmetic surgery for many Australians and New Zealanders, for the first time, Body Beautiful will today be featured on Australian television. "How Young Can I Get?" on ABC2 at 9.30pm this evening in Australia is a real must if you are contemplating on having surgery in Malaysia.

Body Beautiful were the company that arranged Nicky Taylor's tummy tuck surgery from start to finish and were also interviewed during the making of the programme.

Why did you choose to have your cosmetic surgery abroad? The price – it was more economical abroad.

Virtual Plastic Surgery

If you have ever wondered what you would look like with plastic surgery, now is your chance to find out.

Whether you want a new nose, an eyebrow lift or plumper lips, a new website allows you to tinker with your face without going under the knife.

Lift Magic (www.liftmagic.com) is designed to allow prospective plastic surgery patients to tailor make their own cosmetic surgery.

Users upload a photograph onto the site for free and then decide which procedures they would like.

Options include removing bags under the eyes, smoothing wrinkles and sculpting jawlines. Other enhancements include an eyebrow lift, lip augmentation and nose reduction.

Once you have chosen the work you want done, users simply click 'show result' and seconds later the new you pops up.

More than 60,000 women and an increasing number of men have cosmetic surgery in the UK each year.

The site is run by Canadian-based 'face visualisation' company Modiface.

"The main benefit is that it allows you to see a retouched version of your photo in literally seconds," said spokesman Andrew Collins.

"You can choose the options, press a single button and see the results.

"It's easy, fun and virtually effortless.

"For some procedures, such as facelifts or dermal filler injections, it can show you a relatively real result."

Whilst this is a fun and easy site to show you what can be achieved through plastic surgery, at the end of the day, they do say that the results are RELATIVELY real but above all everyone needs to be realistic with their expectations and surgical results do vary from person to person.

The Price You See Is The Price You Pay!

There are many medical tourism operators that have recently 'sprung up' trying to cash in on Britons seeking cosmetic surgery overseas. Whilst I have issued many warnings, be very careful, as the price that you may think you will have to pay may not be the amount debited from your credit card!

Many operators quote in local currency and encourage you to pay by credit card upon your arrival. This could be very costly indeed.

Using a credit card abroad can be quite costly once you take into account the hidden charges being incorporated into your transactions.

That great deal on your overseas cosmetic surgery could actually be costing you much much more than you bargained for!

Foreign usage loading

When you spend on a credit or debit card abroad the exchange rate is based on the Visa or Mastercard wholesale rate.

This is extremely competitive and a much better rate than those offered by most foreign exchange bureaux.

Unfortunately, if you read carefully the terms and conditions of your credit card, there will be a reference to 'foreign usage loading'.

This is a commission that your credit card issuer charges when you buy something abroad.

The amount varies between credit card issuers but is usually 2.75%.

So if you are cosmetic surgery package is £5000, using the credit card to pay for this overseas, could add £137.50 to the cost!

Further many medical tourism agencies will often give you a conversion rate so you roughly know the equivalent in Sterling. Please remember often the rates quoted are more more attractive than the actual Visa or Mastercard wholesale rate. This is designed solely to make the cost look lower to you.

With Body Beautiful, all packages are quoted in £Sterling and the price quoted is the price that you pay so you need not worry about exchange rates fluctuating and foreign usage loading by your credit card company.

A Job Well Done!

The most rewarding part about arranging cosmetic surgery holidays is when I receive letters of thanks and photographs some months later. It certainly makes all the hard work well worth it!

DEAR PAUL

I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY HOW PLEASED MY FRIEND AND I ARE, WE HAVE JUST COME HOME AFTER HAVING A FACELIFTS AND UPPER AND LOWER EYE BAGS REMOVED.

WE CHOSE KUALA LUMPUR FOR A FEW REASONS. WE DID NOT WANT PEOPLE TO SEE US IN THE RECOVERY STAGE SO DID NOT WANT TO BE TOO NEAR TO HOME, THE PRICE OBVIOUSLY CAME INTO IT AS IT WAS MUCH CHEAPER THAN ENGLAND, BUT THE MAIN REASON WAS BECAUSE I HAD HAD CONSULTATIONS WITH TWO SURGEONS IN ENGLAND AND THEY DID NOT GIVE ME ANY CONFIDENCE, AND WHEN I READ DR. SOMA’S C.V.I WAS VERY IMPRESSED.

THE ARRANGEMENTS WITH BODY BEAUTIFUL WENT VERY WELL, WE WERE MET AT THE AIRPORT, AS STATED AND WHISKED OFF TO OUR HOTEL, THE HOTEL WAS VERY GOOD AND THE ROOM SPACIOUS AND VERY CLEAN, WITH THE LAUNDRY CHANGED EVERY DAY. THE RESTAURANT IN THE HOTEL WAS VERY GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY, AND VERY WELL ORGANISED.

THE STAFF AND PEOPLE IN MALAYSIA ARE VERY FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL, THE WEATHER WAS VERY HUMID WITH QUITE A LOT OF CLOUD, ONLY A COUPLE OF SUNNY DAYS, THE POOL AREA AROUND THE POOL IS EXCELLENT.

NOT HAVING MET DR. SOMA BEFORE I WAS NOT SURE WHAT TO EXPECT, BUT HE GAVE ME MORE ENCOURAGEMENT,AND THE THING THAT I LIKED MORE WAS THE FACT THAT I ASKED IF HE WOULD DO LIPOSUCTION AT THE SAME TIME AS THE OTHER PROCEDURERS,AND HE SAID NO, I THOUGHT THAT BEING UNDER THE ANESTHETIC IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AS WELL TO HAVE THE LOT DONE AT ONCE BUT HE SAID THAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN TOO MUCH TO HAVE DONE AT THE SAME TIME,I THOUGHT THAT WAS VERY GOOD AS I THINK YOU EXPECT THEM TO THINK OF MONEY BUT THIS WAS NOT THE CASE.

I DID NOT KNOW A LOT ABOUT THE THINGS THAT I WAS HAVING DONE BUT I WENT TO SEE MY DOCTOR TO HAVE MY STITCHES REMOVED 2 WEEKS AFTER THE FACE LIFT AND HE AND THE NURSE WERE VERY, VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE WORK DR. SOMA HAD DONE AND WERE FULL OF PRAISE FOR HIM AND SAID THAT HE MUST BE A VERY GOOD SURGEON THEY HAD NEVER SEEN SUCH A NEAT JOB BEFORE, AND IT WAS HEALING VERY WELL, AND EXTREMELY CLEAN.

I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH BODY BEAUTIFUL AND WOULD RECOMMEND DOCTOR SOMA AS A SURGEON TO ANYONE.

BBC Three “Miss Real World” – Coming Soon! The debate show was presented by Shazia Mirza and will be incorporated within a one hour BBC special to be broadcasted on BBC3 in July. The programme is investigating how different cultures within the UK perceive beauty and how far women are prepared to go – or not – to subscribe to so-called modern ideals of beauty. I was personally asked to join a expert panel of professionals from the world of fashion and beauty including models, agents, media representatives, beauty experts and academics. I dealt with a number of topical cosmetic surgery issues during the debate show.
